Steam Event Day – Bluebells and Teddy Bear Competition

Sunday May 5th 10am – 4.30pm

The first Steam Event Day of the year sees the Steam Locos in action, pulling passenger carriages in traditional style through the parkland and woodland full of Bluebells at the Bredgar Railway. It's that one time of year we see an incredible spread of wild Bluebells through the woodland and alongside the track. It's a beautiful location with a number of attractions including unlimited rides on the passenger steam trains from Warren Wood station through to Stony Shaw and back again.

The Engine Shed and museum will be open displaying the collection of vintage tractors, locos, engines and cars as well as the hugely popular, extensive model railway. The main field showcases the visiting exhibitor engines, the resident American 105ft Aerial Ladder Fire truck (scale the ladder if you dare!) as well as tractor and trailer rides.

For the kids:

  • The Best Dressed Teddy Competition! Bring your favourite Teddy from home and dress them with as much imagination as you can. Enter the competition by being outside the Tea Room at 1.30pm with your Teddy when the judging takes place. All entrants will receive a small prize, the winners will be awarded with a prize.
  • A Teddy Bear hunt for the children with a prize for those who (mostly) complete it.
  • Tractor trailer rides
  • NEW! Garden Games!
  • Colouring station.
  • (Please note the Yew Tree Farm School will NOT be open to the public on this day)

Why not complete your visit with a stop at our renowned Station Tea Room for a 'proper' coffee and some fabulous cake?
Alternatively grab something hot from the BBQ and set out your picnic blanket for a fantastic day out.

Press Release

Following the Just Giving appeal for funds set up in August, we are pleased to announce the appeal has so far raised just over £5000! This is a huge help considering the winter months are upon us and we’re unable to open for monthly event days as we do through the Summer. As such the £5000 is being used to purchase steam coal and diesel for the coming year, ensuring our engines are able to operate and stay in service.

Work goes ahead with Lawyers appointed to assist in the formation and approval of the Bredgar and Wormshill Light Railway Charity. We are hopeful charitable status will be achieved in the new year at which point the railway will be eligible for financial support.

In the mean time we continue with our Just Giving page, to necessitate the raising of much needed funds. The purpose of the funds going forward include helping towards setting up the charity as well as locomotive work. Limpopo needs extensive boiler works to see her through her ten year certification at an expected cost of around £50,000. Locomotives Helga and Zambezi are coming to completion of work for their 10 year certificates.

What we do

At Bredgar we have restored many long since abandoned industrial vehicles and machines to their former glory, some are better than original and now benefit from a new lease of life.
