Over the winter 2011/2012 the old No. 3 Flat wagon underwent a transformation.
The wagon was stripped completely and the chassis sand blasted clean. The chassis was then widened by 3 inches either side and hinges fitted for the drop-sides. The brake levers and their mountings were adjusted to allow for the extra width. It was then repainted.
Once the chassis was back on its wheels work on the body could commence. A new floor was laid and then 2 plank high hinged sides were fitted. The body was then painted in the livery of a local haulage firm – Lenham Storage.
This is a big change from the original No.3 wagon shown below as it first arrived at Bredgar.
