New Year Steam-up 2025
New Year Steam up and workshop museum guided tour – 25th January
Bredgar and Wormshill Light Railway save, restore and operate a wide variety of industrial steam locomotives, tractors, farm equipment and industrial heritage. In 2025 we celebrate 50 years of operation and 200 years of rail travel.
To explain the position of industrial steam locomotion in the history of the railways and the industrial revolution, we will be giving the visitors a guided tour of our collection. The talk will include the history of our steam and locomotives, as well as the 1870 steam beam engine and water pump, tractors and rolling stock. Ongoing restoration and repairs will be explained including Garforth station footbridge first erected in C1900, now at Bredgar for restoration and erection on site. The talks are aimed at education and celebration of our railway heritage. Visitors will be able to ride in carriages pulled by one of the steam locomotives – at least two will be operating along our short line.
Other items reviewed will include the Aveling-Barford Steam Roller ordered and delivered to the Great Western Railway in 1948 and a Garrett traction engine delivered by train to Oxford station in 1919 for a local farm. We will help illustrate the development path from 1825 to the modern passenger and freight services of today in a relaxed way.
Due to the limited tickets, they are only available to buy online. Tickets will not be for sale on the gate.
