Obituary – David Best 1945 – 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Best after a long illness on Saturday 30th November aged 79.  David co-founded Bredgar and Wormshill Light Railway with his best friend and brother Bill, in 1975.

He will be remembered and greatly missed by his partner and soul mate Sharon, his son and daughter David and Clare and his 3 grandchildren as well as his extended family.

David had a lifelong interest in railways.  Nothing gave him more pleasure than sharing his interest with rail enthusiasts and and those who didn’t know they would become enthusiasts.  He really enjoyed seeing their delight when visiting on BWLR event days.  His closest friends were the many volunteers that helped build and maintain the railway and make it available to visitors.

He had a vast number of friends and contacts in the railway world.  Those contacts and his extensive knowledge and experience were a constant source of council to BWLR even as his illness progressed.

He will be sadly missed.

Details of funeral and other arrangements will be announced in due course.
