The September tractor event day had great weather and saw a lovely line up of tractors parading the woodland and grounds. Brave visitors took on the challenge of scaling the 105 ft ladder of the American Fire Truck – which provides the most stunning views of the venue and the countryside for many miles! The fire truck was joined by a classic Mercedes lorry in the field which added to the big vehicle drama. Alongside the variety of vintage tractors were a good number to assorted motorhoe, motor rotavators and even a motorplough – all of which joined the tractor parade! Of course the tractor trailer rides formed part of the parade, it was lovely to see the line of tractors alongside the train and all the waving passed between them.
The trains on the day were pulled by steam locomotives Victory, Zambezi and Helga and diesel engine Bredgar – with a little shunting help from diesels Milstead and Jenny. The good carriages were out too for a ‘wind in the hair’ train ride for the passengers!
In the engine shed in addition to the traction engine, steam roller and stationary engines is the model railway which was giving out a few electrical conundrums’ first thing however quickly sorted by the dedicated and knowledgeable volunteers. Did you know the model railway is 20 years old this year?!
This year we have had the pleasure of Bob Vine attending (most) of the event days in the engine shed, with his hand made ball bearing runs. They are absolutely fascinating for kids and adults alike and he encourages visitors to get hands on, give them a go and work them out. Thanks to Bob, we hope you’ll be coming back as often next year!
Next we look ahead to the Annual Gala on Sunday 6th October which will be our last ‘Event Day’ of the year. We have a special treat for the adult train enthusiasts with anticipated NINE locomotives working the line and for our young engineers/train enthusiasts/kids who want to know how stuff works with a Young Engineers Workshop.
